How the Basic plan works
Basic summarises every video on your own computer, with Gemini Nano, the language model built into Chrome. This plan is free and has no daily limit, because the work is done by your computer, not our server. It needs disk space and memory to do it.
What does the work
Gemini Nano, the model Google builds into Chrome. It is much smaller and less capable than the model on our server, and it cannot take in a whole video at once, so it works differently and gives a less detailed result than Pro.
The transcript stays on your computer. Our server gets the ids of videos and your account's token, nothing else - see the privacy policy.
What is downloaded
Basic needs the model, which takes about 4 GB of disk space. You download it once, with a button on the extension's options page, which shows the progress.
For Polish videos and Polish summaries Chrome's translator is downloaded as well, with the same press.
How long it takes
The first video after you start the browser takes longer, because Chrome has to load the model first - usually a dozen seconds or so. The next videos no longer wait for the model: the sections of an hour-long video are all there in about half a minute, and the first ones appear straight away. On an older computer all of this can take noticeably longer.
When the summary starts
By default the summary starts as soon as you open a video. If you do not want the computer working on every video you open, set it on the extension's options page to start when you click “What's in it?”.
How it differs from Pro
- Section descriptions are shorter and more general - usually without the numbers and names said in the video.
- There is no marking of the parts worth watching.
- There is no summary of the whole video and no pointer to what to watch if you have ten minutes.
- The summary is made in English, and the Polish version comes from the translator built into Chrome, so some phrasing comes out awkward.
- If the video already has a summary from our server, you see that full version at once.
Memory and the computer
Making a summary puts a load on the computer, so other tabs and programs may run slower meanwhile.
The model's hardware requirements are described by Google (Google's page).
When Basic will not work
Basic will not work outside Chrome - in Edge, Opera or Brave - nor on a computer that does not meet Chrome's requirements: too weak, on an older system or short of disk space. The extension checks this before downloading anything: if Basic will not work, nothing is downloaded and your plan stays as it is.
Choosing and leaving Basic
You choose Basic on the extension's options page once the free week is over. You switch the Pro plan on from your account. On Pro our server makes the summaries, and if you cancel it you can go back to Basic.
